There are many quotes upon which one can draw when dealing with that most elusive of commodities, “Money”, but the one which probably applies to all of us as we reach retirement age is that attributed to Sophie Tucker, herself a lady who was intent on enjoying every moment of life:
“I’ve been rich and I’ve been poor; rich is better!”
While the term “rich” itself insinuates great monetary wealth, in reading in this publication, one should constantly be aware that in order to enjoy one’s retirement years, one indeed has the opportunity to live a life rich in other facets. The simple fact that you suddenly have time at your disposal means that you have a vast wealth of the most precious commodity of all, and the ability to spend it as you please.
In order to utilise all of that seemingly endless time in activities that you have truly hankered after for years, you first and foremost have to ensure that you have the material wherewithal to make it all possible. To this end, the complex puzzle of how to make your money go further becomes critical.
Many of you have spent the previous decades actively involved in your jobs and your families. Many of you are qualified and experienced in diverse professions and trades, not all of which, regrettably, qualify you to manage your money to the best advantage.
It is natural for people to be wary and sometimes even suspicious of sciences with which they are unfamiliar. The better you get to know your dentist, the more comfortable and trusting you feel when being lowered into a horizontal position beneath an array of lights and drills.
