Tips for using the ATM’s

1 Keep your Personal Identity Number (PIN) in your head! If you must write it down, then make sure that it is NEVER in the same place as your card.

2 If there are many people around when you use the ATM, make sure you stand so that your PIN number cannot be seen as you enter it.

3 If someone is standing too close for you to feel comfortable, ask them to move away further. If they won’t, leave without using the machine and report the incident to the bank concerned.

4 Never, ever let someone distract you in the middle of a transaction. Make sure your card is received directly from the machine and into your hand and put it away safely before dealing with any interruption.

5 The bank staff are trained to assist people in using the ATM’s and if the machine is right outside a bank and someone asks you to help then you should recommend that they ask for help inside. (Obviously we don’t all want to be Mr Mean, so there are times when you may want to help someone. NEVER use your own card to do this and NEVER let the person you help tell you their PIN number)

First Step Marketing

6 At night try to use well lit ATM’s (even if it means using one from a bank other than your own) and try to have someone watching your back for you.

7 If you are alone at night when using an ATM then make sure no-one is hanging around the vicinity without an obvious purpose.
